ABOUT ME

Legal Expertise I work with clients of all types: creative individuals all the way through to SMEs, universities, spin-outs and globally-known household names. So, I have experience of dealing with the legal nuances encountered by this range of clients. As well as day-to-day prosecution of patent applications throughout the world, I have experience in more specialised areas of: due diligence; freedom-to-operate; infringement; validity; European Patent Office hearings, oppositions and appeals; and litigation in the UK. I provide in-house, technology specific intellectual property awareness training to clients. I have also lectured, and still mentor, for the CIPA Patent Administrator’s Course, and lectured in patent law on the BPP Graduate Diploma in Law course (Manchester). Technical Expertise I have a first class MPhys degree in Physics, with academic research experience in the modelling of OLED emission profiles. I also have industrial research experience with Sharp Laboratories of Europe in the field of LCDs, with a particular focus on molecular alignment of liquid crystal molecules and related improvements in LCD viewing angles. My practice involves work in a very wide range of technical areas, ranging from what might be considered as fundamental physics, all the way through to consumer electronics, and engineering. I have particular in-depth expertise in technologies such as: consumer electronics and products, with a particular speciality in gesture control, 3D display technologies and related image processing, and cryptography and security; automated packing and shopping systems, in terms of engineering and software; defence systems, particularly those focussing on optical and engineering aspects; imprint and optical lithography; turbochargers; nuclear and supporting technologies; and confectionery processing and packaging.
