ABOUT ME

Chanakya Jayadeva is an Attorney from Sri Lanka. He started his career with Harvard Professor Dr Neelan Tiruchelvam’s Chambers in 1997 and joined as State Counsel to the Attorney Generals Department of Sri Lanka. Here he was responsible for appearing on behalf of the government on Civil and Commercial litigation, advising the government on legal issues, and drafting agreements and contracts. In 2005 he joined the private bar and practiced as a Legal counsel in all areas of Intellectual Property specialising in Media, Broadcasting and Entertainment Law. In addition he has served as consultant adviser to many private establishments. Currently he owns and runs his own firm, ENTERTAINMENT, MEDIA AND SPORTS LAW FIRM in Sri Lanka:https://www.entertainmentlawworld.com Mr Jayadeva has received several accolades and awards during his career; in 1997 he was awarded the Justice Fernando Memorial Research Prize for his paper ‘Suggestions to Amend the Companies Act of Sri Lanka’. He was also awarded a World Bank scholarship through the Legal & Judicial Reforms Project (LJRP) in 2002 and received training on Commercial Law at the City University Hong Kong. In 2012, Mr Jayadeva was chosen by the United States Department of State to participate in a special fellowship in the United States under the International Leadership Visitors Program (ILVP).He also now legal consultant to Western Region Megapolis Project for the Government of Sri Lanka. Mr. Jayadeva is a regular speaker on World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) seminars held in Sri Lanka.His notable speeches have been on Intellectual Property have been Delivered Conference in Mauritius on Media topic Media, social network and the Internet,for whom should the legislation be stiffened –(2012), LAW ASIA 2015 Summit in Sydney Australia (2015, Colombo Sri Lanka (2016) and Tokyo Japan (2017).
