I'm Carol M. Durling

ABOUT ME

Carol Durling is an associate of the firm since 2004. She is Head of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, and a member of the ARIFA Pro Bono and CSR Committee. With years of experience in both, the administrative and litigation fields, Ms Durling provides comprehensive IP counseling for large international and domestic companies requiring first class service with in-depth understanding of Panamanian IP law. Ms Durling has a wealth of experience representing clients in securing and maintaining patents, trademarks, or copyrights; antitrust and competition matters; franchise, licenses of use and distribution contracts applying her IP knowledge and contractual expertise; and related litigation procedures to fully protect their intellectual property assets. A passionate IP litigation lawyer, Ms Durling background includes having worked in the Panamanian Judiciary Organization, as a secretary of the 5th Municipal Civil Court (1999) which experience she applies to defend the IP rights of our clients on the Commercial Courts as well as the Penal Courts for anti-counterfeiting matters. Ms Durling also worked in the Autoridad de la Región Interoceánica (ARI), a Government Entity whose primary objective was to exert privative custody, use and administration of goods reversed from the former Canal Zone (2000-2002), gaining a practical understanding of the Administrative Law and the Public Administration, applying this expertise in the registration and protection of the IP rights of the clients on our Panamanian Jurisdiction. Ms. Durling is an active member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) being part of their Leadership Meetings, Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle (AIPPI), and the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI).
