ABOUT ME

Carla Parris is an Entertainment and Sports Lawyer from Trinidad & Tobago. She is a pioneer in her field as she operates the first boutique law practice in the country which focuses solely on Intellectual Property, Entertainment and Sports law. She has operated as a music industry consultant on behalf of the Government of T & T and has been a World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) consultant for Caribbean based project. Parris’ life has been untraditional as after being called to the bar in T &T she moved to London to pursue her passions in the creative industry. There she worked in the magazine publishing industry as an Editor and Features Writer within the cultural and technology sectors. After returning to T & T she enjoyed brief stints as an entertainment news journalist with the state owned TV station. She is actively involved in a multitude of public education initiatives and has been a part time lecturer in the Film Department of the University of the West Indies. She has also participated in over 17 IP conferences. She is very vibrant on social media and has produced and distributed free online Caribbean legal education videos. In traditional media she has authored a series in the Business Guardian newspaper concerning a plethora of topics surrounding Intellectual Property Law and carnival. In January 2017 she developed a five part TV series entitled “The Business of Carnival” surrounding the commercialization of carnival in conjunction with the state owned television station CTV.
