ABOUT ME

Son Doan is the managing partner of IPMAX Law Firm having more than 20 years of experience of practising laws in Vietnam. Before the set up of IPMAX Law Firm, he worked for Rouse Legal, an UK law firms for 12 years and at the same time, managed Doan Hong Son Law Office, a reputed IP law firm in Vietnam. Son has extensive experience in advising multinational corporations on various legal matters in Vietnam from business operations, competition, consumer protection, and regulatory compliance to intellectual property, technology transfer and other commercial transactions. Son is a frequent author and presenter on intellectual property topics. He provided comments to various draft laws including the Intellectual Property Law, the Law on Competition, the Law on Lawyers, the amended Penal Code, the Food Safety Law etc. and contributed to the draft of regulations guiding the implementation of these laws. He also contributed to various position papers including the Eurocham White Book and recommendations to the Government of Vietnam for improvement of legal framework and trade policy, especially with respect to intellectual property and information technology. Son worked as an expert to a number of projects such as the UNDP funded project: "Strengthening Capacity for National Expertise for Human Resource Development” (VIE/95/038) and the European Technical Assistance Programme for Vietnam (ETV 2) - Enhancement of Intellectual Property rights enforcement by General Customs Department of Vietnam (2006). He is currently the Expert of the ASEAN IPR SME Helpdesk – an European Union (EU) funded project supporting small and medium sized enterprises to both protect and enforce their Intellectual Property rights in or relating to ASEAN, through the provision of free information and services. Son completed an LL.M. in IP Law at the George Washington University Law School in 2008 under the Fulbright Scholarship.
