ABOUT ME

I have over twenty years'​ experience of trade mark, copyright and design protection both in the UK and overseas. I manage the global trade mark portfolios of some of the UK's leading brands. I undertake and manage worldwide trade mark clearance and filing programmes. I have extensive experience of the enforcement and preservation of design and trade mark rights, including customs enforcement. I have prosecuted numerous domain name actions through Nominet and the UDRP procedures, including a class action UDRP complaint for four commercially unconnected complainants relating to a new gTLD, one of the first of its kind. I also have extensive experience of filing and prosecuting trade mark applications, oppositions, and cancellation actions before the EUIPO, WIPO and across the globe, including successful appeals to the Boards of Appeal. I have had articles published in IP journals such as World Trademark Review, Managing Intellectual Property, the Oxford Journal of Intellectual Property Law and Practice, Intellectual Property World, World Intellectual Property Review, ITMA Review and the Marques Newsletter. Commented on intellectual property matters in leading newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Sunday Times, The Times, The Independent, Newsweek, BuzzFeed and Daily Mail and regional newspapers such as Manchester Evening News and Yorkshire Post and in trade journals Brand Republic, The Drum, Campaign, Design Week, Retail Week, The Retail Bulletin, The Grocer, Drapers and Admap. I have talked widely on IP matters including for the American Bar Association ('ABA'​), American Intellectual Property Law Association ('AIPLA'​) and on radio for BBC Radio 4 and TalkRadio. I was a contributor to The Community Trade Mark Handbook and an Examiner of the Basic Trade Mark Law paper for the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys and past member of the PR Committee for the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys.
